Mika Horie
Mika Horie was born in Kyoto, Japan in 1984.
Her interestin photography and Japanese paper-making began in BA in Information Design at Kyoto University of Art and Design.
Upon graduation in 2007, Mika worked as a freelance photographer for wedding ceremonies and a local magazine for
the town information.
In 2008, she moved to the United Kngdom for her one-year study in MA European Arts Practice (Fine Art) at Kingston
University London.
Throughout her life in Europe, she developed her interest in exploring a symbolic Japanese food "UMEBOSHI (dried plums)" and the common sense of humor in our everyday life with various works. In 2013, she established her own studio space in Kaga-city, and started to pursue the primitive passions and aesthetic values of Japanese Paper and blue photo-expression.
Mika creates all her works on the basis of ultra-naturalism by local, organic and highest raw materials for paper-making, then concentrates onphoto-printing at will.

My atelier is located in the small hot springs village of Kaga-city in Ishikawa prefecture. Since I came to live here, I return to nature and commune with it everyday.
Kaga's environmentally‐friendly life is amazingly balanced to the traditional aesthetic consciousness.
